G & T’s as it was has changed its name to Tiffany’s. For a short while some of you may remember it as Unities, you may also remember that it was frequently shut. Well things have changed a new broom is certainly sweeping in the changes. The place now looks a lot lighter and brighter, and people are beginning to come back. Tina has changed not only the décor but has created an atmosphere; there is a certain buzz around the place.
On Sundays, yes it IS open on Sundays the lunch is back and in the evening there is a Whist drive. Mondays see Market Day specials. Thursdays is quiz night and big Al is back! Friday is for music memories. Call by and request your favourites, they are also showing all the major sporting events. There are now a lot of smiling faces from the customers through to the staff, everyone seems happy. Take a tip from me and try their Chicken and Bacon wraps, they are fabulous, we wish them all the best and if enthusiasm gets results then they are onto a winner.
I have three suggestions for places to eat this month, the first I was unsure about. We had visited this restaurant during the day for a coffee and was never very impressed so when our friends invited us for an evening meal we were hesitant. How wrong we were, the Restaurant concerned is in Almayate and is called “La Pepe Molina” tel. 952 556 007 or 617 430 188. They have a wonderful menu with lots of exciting meals. Just typical of any Spanish restaurant you are never rushed, it is definitely another place to eat in the Axarquia region, and we will be back.
Next we have the Café del Mar, Burriana Beach, Nerja, telephone number 626123633. This is owned and run by Richard and John, they are a lovely couple and always but always make you feel welcome. The food is good and wholesome with lots of home made goodies, there is a daytime menu and evening menu, but they are so obliging that nothing is any trouble. Be prepared for a chat, they make you feel like you are part of the family but be warned that you are bound to want to return to try more of their delicious food.
Finally there is a restaurant in Vinuela called Venta La Vina, telephone 952519070 we had been advised to go by lots of different people and yet never seemed to manage to get there. As a surprise for my birthday a table was booked and Geoff arranged for our staff to surprise me and we had a wonderful evening, the only bad thing I can say for this restaurant is that it is not the sort of place for a romantic evening because the lighting is extremely bright. What does it matter though when the food is so delicious? There is a wonderful choice of food and it is very well presented and cooked. Another “must go back to” on our list of places to go. Be warned that if you intend to eat after 8pm you really must book a table because it does get very busy. According to their card they also have “Apartamentos Turisticos” for any of you who fancy staying in a typical Spanish village. What did everyone do before they found this place?
We are coming up to the Communion time of year, when all the children will be dressed in white and getting extremely nervous and all the Spanish restaurants and Chiringuitos will be full to bursting point with relatives and friends joining in the festivities from now until June.
Then of course it will be the start of the Romarias and Feria’s, one thing the Spanish Love to do is to party and don’t they do it well?
I heard on the Radio last week that if you have a Spanish registered car (which we all should if we are living here), then you have until the 19th May to pay the road tax, some people may not be aware of this because the paperwork doesn’t always go to the “new” owner. So if in doubt check this out because after 19th May anyone not making their legally required payments will also incur a fine for not paying on time. Talking of fines it is also a legal requirement in Spain to carry with you at all times photographic evidence of who you are, and if you are driving a car you must also have with you at all times your driving license the lack of which could cause you to have a fine, and lets face it none of us want that.
Arkwrights are moving all the food and household goods to premises just across the road from where we are at the moment. This will hopefully give everyone room to move around the shop without becoming “extremely good friends” with complete strangers, in fact sometimes it is more than cosy in our shop at the moment. Someone asked me last month if it was to be bigger, I mentioned that there would be room to move around, I was met with surely if there is a space you will fill it with something “who me?” well who knows I may find something!!
Our Greetings cards, which have always been my baby, are staying put along with the new edition of Helium Balloons, toys, gifts, flowers, newspapers, magazines and hopefully we shall have enough room to extend our cosmetics. At long last we can move back home and enjoy the house instead of tripping over stock and freezers!
As well as the Helium Balloons we have acquired another item requested by the customers and that is Goose Fat, it is supposed to make the most delicious Roast potatoes, I hasten to add that I have not tried it so far but once we move back home I intend to give it a try.
We look forward to seeing everyone at our 3rd Anniversary on 18th May 3pm to 7pm to thank everyone again for their valued support.
