NAMING OF SURPRISE FOAL BORN AT THE DONKEY SANCTUARY, FUENTE DE PIEDRA

Nana, one of the donkeys from El Refugio del Burrito, unexpectedly gave birth to a beautiful foal – fittingly, on Spain’s Morher’s Day. The foal  was officially named Alicia in a ceremony held earlier this month. Alicia’s name was drawn out of all the names proposed by the children who visited El Refugio during June.
  El Refugio in Fuente de Piedra, Málaga , is an association dedicated to the rescue and care of donkeys and mules, and Nana arrived there last November from Almería, where she´d had 16 different owners in 10 years. She had really bad hooves, which barely allowed her to stand up and so the vets did not even consider her to be pregnant as her problem, with its consequent effect of lack of mobility, would have caused her to put on weight.
