Thursday night saw the fortnightly Texas Hold’em poker tournamnent at Margarita. The event drew a crowd of both players and spectators under the helpful eye of local Poker officianado Ken “The Clipper”. The chips & quips started flying at 8.30 and by 9.30 I had a pile of chips any rookie would be proud of. Darren and Cam kept us all well fed with hot snacks to keep our bellies full and our minds sharp. New terms of flop, river, shark, fish and split pot were daunting at first but Ken was always on hand to explain and help.The crowning moment for me was an all-in showdown between Kevin holding a full house K,K,K,A,A and Derek with a A,A,A,K,K the tables were being wittled down as were my chips when I left in an acceptable 3rd, Gary who had been cautious most of the night came into his own and stormed to the finish by dominating Derek into 2nd place with his high chip stack and powerful betting.
