“One afternoon, my son Joe settled down to do his homework at the kitchen table. I was intrigued by the directional light and the old fashioned abacus helping to create the timelessness of this scene. Joe seemed unconcerned as I took some photographs. I planned the painting to have a loose, free feel without unnecessary detail. I felt it important to keep the focal point on Joe´s face and on what he was doing. I also wanted to maintain the peacefulness of the scene. I did a quick pencil sketch at the time, too, which enabled me to capture the spontineity of the moment and helped to remind me, at the painting stage, what had held my attention.”
Steve Godfrey, Artist
Steve Godfrey has a website www.focaleye.com showing examples of his recent portraits, figure studies with dancers, and paintings exploring the movement and prowess of horses.
The website also has some time-lapse videos of paintings in progress and a link to his latest publication – a blog featuring “what’s on the easel” -- an
insight into the creative process behind some of his work.
This would make a great present at any time of the year. Take a look at the website, then call Steve on 695707151 to talk, meet and look through your photos and commission a very special work of art.
