A great, new restaurant, ‘Big Wok’, celebrated its opening night in Antequera recently. As the name suggests, it serves oriental food, a combination of Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese dishes. Chefs sauté, steam, stirfry and braise, providing food that is quickly prepared, fresh and tasty.

However, it isn’t just the food which makes Big Wok different. It is a buffet-style restaurant where you can help yourself to hot or cold starters such as sushi, salads, noodles, sate or fried rice. Then you can select the meat or fish for your plancha dish… chicken, beef, pork, spare ribs, swordfish, squid or prawns, taking this to the chef and watching as it is cooked to perfection. For the stirfry dishes, once again there is a range of chopped meat and fish and a good selection of vegetables. This time you can choose whether to have a traditional or spicy taste and watch as the chefs stir and toss your selection in big woks

If you have room for a dessert, there is a selection of exotic fruit or crème caramel. There are delightful extras too, such as good soy, chilli and wasabe sauces.

The restaurant itself is huge, enclosed within floor to ceiling windows, with comfortable seating and glittering chandeliers. It’s airy and spacious in black, tan and silver colours.

Friendly waitresses serve drinks and explain the routine of choosing your own food, walking you through the choices if needed. The hot food is piping hot and the food areas are monitored well and kept clean and well-stocked.

It certainly is something different for Antequera and is an enjoyable experience. For a set price you can eat as much as you like.

Evenings, Weekends & Festivals – 13.50E; weekday lunches – 11.50E; children under 7yrs – 7E – drinks are extra.

Big Wok is next to Lidl, opposite Mercadona and is open every day from 1 to 5pm and 8 to 12pm. It’s a great place to go for a family lunch, meet up with friends, relax after shopping or for a great night out. It’s so nice to be able to take your time and savour some very special oriental dishes.
