Nestling in the hills above the village of La Joya, the Hotel La Fuente Del Sol welcomed guests for the first time in mid-March. It has been designed to incorporate many traditional features, such as beamed and sloping ceilings, yet presents a modern face with its under-floor heating and uncluttered decoration – plain walls with a few bright modern paintings and a splash of terracotta, mustard or blue. There’s a strong sense of space in the cathedral-like interiors where every window affords a stunning view over hills and valleys. The fourteen rooms are beautiful and even the standard doubles are spacious.
The suites and superior doubles are wonderfully designed while the imperial suite is like a luxurious home from home with a huge terrace. This is a place to relax in, to pamper yourself. The facilities (see advert for full details) are extensive and are for the exclusive use of guests. How delightful it would be to swim in the indoor, heated pool with a view! As well as a small dining room for quiet dining or functions, there’s an attractive main restaurant where they serve traditional food with a modern touch; porra, ‘melt in the mouth’ cod, morsels of black pudding in filo pastry and mouth-watering desserts. The chef, David Munoz trained in the prestigious Archidona College and has worked in the north of Spain, as well as in the hotel Ritz in Madrid. The restaurant is open to the public (lunch 1.15 to 3.45 and dinner 7.30 to 9.30) though reservations are required. Afterwards you could take a walk round the duck pond or sit on the terrace enjoying the peace and beauty of the countryside. Together with the Junta de Andalucia, Hotel La Fuente del Sol is running a competition for golfers in Britain, the prize being three nights at the hotel plus daily golf. Although one could easily relax for the entire stay in this friendly hotel, the manager, Luis Lozano, has information for guests on places of interest to visit, can arrange airport pick-ups and take guests to the train station for day trips to Granada or Seville. Hotel La Fuente Del Sol is the place to go to be pampered, to relax after business, to celebrate that special occasion in unbelievable luxury. |
