Auto Mechanic Print E-mail

The service I offer is like any qualified professional tradesman.

All work, repairs and parts carry a guarantee, which I will honour, obviously apart from wear and tear items. i.e. brake pads, fan belts, bulbs, clutches, tyres, etc.

I personally have a wide scope of experience dating back to my apprenticeship in 1978.

I worked in the same garage for 24 years and prior to that served my apprenticeship

on psv coaches. I left the U.K. last march 2005 and travelled working my way, by coast. through France, Northern Spain, Portugal finally arriving in Antequera in November. I found an idyllic spot at El Torcal. At that point, I did some research and days later approached Local Connections, for information and advice. I did ask, simply for the fact, re fellow mechanics, if I would be encroaching on any body else.

After a brief meeting I took their advice and ran an advert with them. This I have done since November last year, and it has been very satisfactory. To that event, I now have a good client base.

I offer a mobile service to the clients´ houses which allows them to carry on with every day life. i.e. sunbathing, BBQ, in the pool or just chilling out on their sun terrace.

I hope my present customers are happy with my service and at this point, would like to thank them for their support and for the trust they put in me.

However, I feel I do try to offer a competitive rate, due to the fact I do not and will not charge for travelling time or call out charges. However I do charge 10 cents a km, just to subsidise my vast fuel expense. Hey after all I cannot give fuel away. But I am willing to travel to places such as Coin, Alora, Marbella, Fuengirola, Casabermeja, Olvera, Iznajar, Comares, La Cala, Loja, Rute etc.,

Travelling 75 km to 100 km works out at a cost of 7 to 10 euros max.

I think it’s good value as I am prepared to waive travel time, and call out charges.

A point to note at this time, as we are all aware, is that the mobile phone signal here in Spain is sporadic, especially in the Andalucian area. hence the famous phrase, "Can you hear me, I can hear you." Due to that fact when new potential customers ring me up for advice or for an inspection, we sometimes get cut off.

Hence I cannot do a follow up call, simply for the fact they withhold their number which is an important note at this point.

The good news for Auto Mechanic is that hopefully in the near future internet access will become available, which will allow a more positive response to most customers’ questions on advice they are seeking (which is all free as any professional advice should be).

The global array of repairs I carry out range from cars, wagons, motor bikes, scooters, lawn mowers, golf buggies, marine engines, inboard or outboard, generators and plant machinery.

I have vast experience with electronics and have been an MOT tester for the last 15 years, as well as a mechanic. On Sunday mornings I can do emergency call out only, but like all you fellow Brits,

I do like a beer and Sunday dinner around 2.30.

There is not much more to tell as my skills and workmanship will say it all.

However, some repairs to vehicles are beyond my control. Cars are like humans. We all die at some point, which is why I always say that I am a mechanic not a magician - just a light hearted point to note to all you readers who have taken your time to read this article. For which, at this point, Muchas Gracias.

Okay, Competition Time

excluding fellow mechanics and staff at Local Connections.

Question

What does JEEP stand for or mean. Clue, it’s an abbreviation, or for you secretaries out there - short hand.

Prize is. Full service, labour free, but parts and materials have to be paid for.

Send your answers by email or post to Local Connections. The lucky winner will be announced in next month’s magazine.
