Last month I started telling you about the ever growing animal population, but that was only the beginning. Christmas of 2004 found us taking on perhaps our most difficult new addition – a new born baby goat! Holly, as we named her, was rescued from a local farm as she had failed to suckle and the farmer had left her to die. I was asked if I would have her and like a fool said yes.
She was a tiny little scrap, and could barely drink. I had to force her to take 1oz at a time from a baby’s bottle. She just about stayed alive though, surviving pneumonia over Christmas and to my relief gradually becoming stronger and drinking more.

Darling of the Spanish cinema Pedro Almodóvar finally got the recognition that he thinks he deserves last month when he was awarded the Prince of Asturias award for arts. The award, regarded by the Spanish-speaking world as the equivalent of an Oscar, is the biggest prize the director has ever received in his own country.

We moved to Spain in February 2004, settling in Pedrera. We were originally going to start a caravan park for tourists but, unfortunately, things changed. Within a few months of moving in we found out that we had been sold an illegal build, which involved boundary disputes, and no running water, and what water we could get was laden with salt. This along with other problems eventually drained all of our resources; although our spirits were low we still kept positive and were determined to stay.

After twenty-nine years in Scotland, Head Chef Pedro is back in Antequera in his own bar and restaurant, Torre Hacho. With its great corner location on Calle Urb Torre Hacho, near the Antequera Golf Hotel, it’s perfect for the summer months when Pedro hopes his terraces will be filled with customers eager for his barbeques.
Pedro was Head Chef in Edinburgh, then, made the headlines in a local newspaper when a reporter visited his bar and restaurant, La Casa de Pedro, near St. Andrews. Pedro said that , at first, it was difficult to find ingredients for his Spanish cooking but that now it is really easy as all the supermarkets stock them.
